At mile marker 18 and approximately 4,000 feet elevation, the road uphill leads you to the spectacular Kalalau Lookout in Koke'e State Park.  From this vantage point you will feel blessed by the panoramic view of 2-mile wide Kalalau Valley, a famed segment of the island's Na Pali Coast. Looking down for 3 miles from the soaring sea cliffs into the blue Pacific Ocean,... this is one of the greatest sights in all of Hawaii.  Remote Kalalau is Na Pali's largest valley and although it is uninhabited now, native Hawaiians populated the area until approximately 1919.  By the early parts of the 20th century, the last inhabitants were being lured away from their simple existence by developing sugar towns and a new way of living.
