During one hike, passing us unexpectedly from the opposite direction was a young surfer whistling a tune and carrying his board as if he had just stepped off a wave in Waikiki. In all seriousness, as you approach Hanakapi'ai Beach after the first two miles' hike, please be aware that this is considered Kauai's deadliest beach. |

Although Hanakapiai Beach is pretty to look at, there have been many confirmed drownings here. Hike carefully for two more miles upstream to reach the 300-foot Hanakapi'ai Falls. |
