What may sound good to some did not however sound good to the majority of Molokai's community groups. After all, real people with a very rich history and very real challenges live here and they've seen the problems that "progress" has brought elsewhere. Additional tourism and development has always been deeply questioned on Molokai,... and local residents did not like the idea of multimillion-dollar homes owned by real estate investors and speculators (most without ties to the island) who would more than likely alter Molokai's simple way of life forever. Other contested issues included water access rights and the possible loss of entry to sacred La'au Point by local families, hunters and fishermen.
