It was because of the Molokai Hoe Canoe Race that we found ourselves bouncing down a dirt road from Maunaloa toward Hale o Lono Harbor one early October morning. With over 1,000 paddlers from around the world competing in the 41-mile race, the energy, colors and pageantry at the event were absolutely amazing. Look for Joseph "Nappy" Napoleon, the over 60 legend from Anuenue Canoe Club who has finished the event for over 50+ years in a row now. His love and dedication to the sport is inspiring to say the least.
